The College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT) has strategically created its own vision, mission and thrusts aligned with the vision of the UP Los Baños and the University of the Philippines System as a whole. These were made to cope up with the goals and objectives of the college and its mandate as a national service center in research and extension.
The fast globalization and Industrial Revolution 4.0 are just two of the biggest challenges faced by the institution in the present; meanwhile, the skills demand in the global market also affects the achievement of its vision.
As an innovative college, CEAT has revised its undergraduate curriculars from five-year to four-year programs to align it with the Senior High School curriculum. Incorporated in the revised curriculars are the courses Technopreneurship and Innovationeering— coined by Dr. Roger Billings and Sir Geoffrey Pardoe of the International Academy of Science which means “the science of putting science into work”. Through these courses, the students can enhance their planning, designing and marketing skills and can fortify their collaboration and camaraderie as a team. Moreover, the courses are helpful in promoting technology-based enterprises that can contribute to the technological development of the country and for possible future collaborations with other academic institutions, industrial companies and government agencies. To support these programs, innovation laboratories and fablabs were established through the help of our industry and government agency partners. The fablab is envisioned to be a shared service facility that will act as a link between the academe and industry, fostering collaborations and partnerships. This will cater technopreneurs and students who have creative ideas which they wish to turn into something tangible and marketable. It will focus on technology prototypes and products that targets to aid the agricultural industry of the Philippines.
At present, the college is currently working on its curricular proposal for the establishment of the BS Mechanical Engineering program which is a response to the growing demands within CALABARZON and nearby provinces.
CEAT is expanding its horizon by strengthening the academe- industry linkages within government agencies, private institutions, alumni and stakeholders. CEAT will continue to develop technologies that are useful to the industry and to the Filipino people and to sharpen its undergraduate and graduate students with the technological skills needed by the industry. The college will do its work to meet its vision and mission to be an innovative college that can bring helpful and progressive outcomes to our beloved country. (Mary Jane F. Gallardo)
